Cassandra's Dream

In the last few lessons, we watched a new film called “Cassandra’s Dream” by Woody Allen. It deals with the topics of money, family and death. The plot is simple, two London brothers who are hard-up and who have girls to look out for, have to murder in order to get their aims. The man who they had to kill was someone who would disturb their rich uncle if they don’t. Finally, they got to do it and one of them started to regret about it. The situation became insufferable with Terry. And so Ian, who was sent by his uncle, tried to kill Terry who killed him first.
Even though it’s not the best movie by Woody Allen, I liked it because of the topics he talks about and how he develops the plot. The movie makes you think about how much you would risk to achieve your aims in life.

Cassandra's dream

Two London brothers are hard-up for cash, and both have girls to look out for, too. When rich Uncle Howard comes to town and agrees to help them out, he admits his finances are under investigation, and he asks them to do him a favor and "take care of" an old business relation to keep his trouble under wraps - he says that they're family, and since he always takes care of them, the least they could do is help him out this once, as they're the only ones he can trust. The film follows their struggle with the immorality of this request and how each brother chooses to deal with it.

Inception

I have never watch a movie like Inception, it has a pretty weird argument but it is really interesting and innovative.

The movie it is about a man cold Cobb, an expert thief. He has a new challenge: to steal in dreams. He is offered to clean his name on his wife's murder by Saito if he works for him. Cobb had to do a new thing: not to steal in a dream, he had to put a new idea, which was to dissolve a new bussines a man has just inherited. They make a great team of experts about dreams and went into the 4th or 5th dream in this man. They could difference the level of dreams because of the colors.
At the end, Cobb is free of the charges and turns and object he had to know if it was the real world or a dream. Depending on if it stops or not, he could know it, but at the end he turns it but it ends before we can know if it was really the real world, an open ending.

Finally I recommend it because Inceptions  is an unusual movie and you should be opened to watch a variety of movies not just those ones which you think you will like .

CASSANDRA´S DREAM

Cassandra´s dream it is a movie about one of our most desire wish in life, money. It gives us power but not all of it is beneficial.
Ian and Terry, two brothers, the main characters from the story, are going to pass the limit and they are going to be able to be part of and crime just to get the money they want.
Ian is a man who want to be famous and important in life, he is too ambitious and he always look for the fame. He is fascinated by Angela a young actress who want to shine in the stage.
Terry is addictive to the game, he spend his time gambling and losing money really easily.
Terry blame Ian for their economics problems despite it they got a second-hand boat for sailing in their free time.
The arrival of their uncle Howard is going to change their life, they must choose between keep going as they used to do or risk their life to solve all their problem , it is not going to be easy for them and there will be some unexpected event.

In my opinion the attitude from those characters are extremely selfish, they just look for them self.  It is reflected in our society today’s days despite of the fact that its movie but we can see it easily in our own life.

British brothers Terry and Ian, who live in South London, were raised by a weak father who runs a restaurant, and a strong mother who taught her sons to look up to their uncle Howard, a successful businessman. Both brothers decide to buy a sailboat which they name Cassandra's Dream, after the horse that won the race in which Terry earned the money to buy the boat. Knowing nothing of Greek Mythology, they are unaware of the ominous antecedants of this name - the ancient prophetess Cassandra, whose prophesies of doom went unheeded by those around her. After a day sailing with their current girlfriends and while driving back home in a borrowed Jaguar XK150, Ian crosses paths with beautiful actress Angela Stark), with whom he falls in love. The brothers' financial difficulties Terry has a gambling problem, while Ian wishes to invest in hotels in California lead them to think about asking for Howard's help. Uncle Howard supposedly comes to London to celebrate his sister's birthday, but when the two brothers ask for his financial help, he reveals a more sinister motive. He admits that he is about to go to jail because of accusations coming from Martin Burns, a business partner who plans to testify against him, and asks his two nephews if they can help to get rid of him. After initial reluctance, the two brothers agree. They make two working zip guns from metal and wood, allowing them to burn them afterwards. In an initial attempt they wait in Burns' home; unexpectedly he is accompanied by a woman. Panicked, they leave and agree to commit the murder the next day. In the next attempt they succeed in carrying out the murder uncaught, and burn the guns. Ian is content to move on as if nothing happened, but Terry is consumed by guilt and begins abusing alcohol and pills. This frightens his girlfriend (Sally Hawkins), who meets Ian to tell him about the situation, mentioning to him that Terry believes he has killed someone. Terry's behavior begins to get out of control, thus terrifying Ian. After Terry confides to his brother that he's thinking about turning himself in to the police, Ian goes to Howard for advice. Together, they agree there is no other alternative but to get rid of Terry. Ian then plans to poison Terry during a trip on the boat. In the end, however, Ian can't bring himself to kill Terry. In a fit of rage, they tussle aboard the boat. In the chaos, Terry knocks Ian against the hull and kills him. Terry, who was already suicidal, snaps and drowns himself.

Cassandra's dream

Ian and Terry are two brothers with some economic problems. One day they decide to buy a boat, the “Cassandra’s Dream”. Then, Ian meets a very attractive actress and he falls in love with her, but he needs money for the marriage. However, Terry is a gambler, and he is having problems with money. One day their uncle arrives to their home and he promises them a lot of money if they kill one man that is putting him in problems. They think seriously if killing him or not, and they finally decide to do it. After killing him, Terry feels guilty, and he gets depressed. He wants to suicide, or even to tell the police that they were the ones who killed the man. Ian and his ancle are not going to let him do it, so they finally decide that Ian will kill Terry in their boat with a lethal dosis of medicaments. But in the boat, Ian can’t kill him, but he gets nervous and attacks Terry, so Terry pushes him and kills him accidentally. After that the police examines the boat, discovering that Terry has killed himself.

Cassandra's dream

In London, two loser brothers, called Ian and Terry, coming from a working-class family, buy a second-hand sailboat name Cassandra's Dream for their leisure. Ian is saving money to invest in two hotels in California. Meanwhile, Terry is an alcoholic gambler addicted to pills. When Terry loses a great amount in a card game, Ian lends his savings to pay part of the prize Terry owes to the loan.
When their wealthy uncle Howard arrives in London coming from China, the two brothers see the chance to borrow the money they need to quit the debt with the loan and to invest in the hotel again. However, Howard asks them to get rid of his Martin Burns that is threatening him and his as well as his businesses. Ian and Terry have to get a clear mind about this issue. They have to decide whether they should cross the line and help the family or face the lack of money to try to resolve their issues. The film shows the dark side of human kind. The two brothers are good boys, nice guys, eager to please, fast to smile and as dedicated to each other as to the idea of family. I believe this film actually shows the ups and downs of two brothers luck of the family support. Due to that, in the end they trust anyone and they think that what their uncle sais it's alright. In the end, this film shows how week human kind is, and how cruel it's too. We can do the best and the worst things.

Cassandra's dream

Cassandra’s dream This film was released in 2007 in Europe and it was filmed in the UK. The film is written and directed by Woody Allen. He used to be a comedy writer, but in this film he has the ability to turn up the argument. The film starts like a comedy and in the end it results to be a tragedy. Each character of the film has a strong personality. Allen has the power to get us into the movie. The film is about two London brothers who are hard-up for cash, and both have girls to look out for, too. When rich Uncle Howard comes to town and agrees to help them, he admits his finances are under investigation, and he asks them to do him a favor and "take care of" an old business relation to keep his trouble under wraps, he says that they're family, and since he always takes care of them, the least they could do is help him out this once, as they're the only ones he can trust. I really like this film because it teachs you important values that you can apply in your daily life. Also I like this film because it’s directed by Woody Allen and he is one of my favourites directors.

Cassandra's dream

CASSANDRA'S DREAM

Two brothers with financial problems ask their uncle to help them, but to do this they must kill a man. At first they didn't want to kill him, but they had to do it to help his uncle and theirselves.
Terry couldn't get over it so he told the police he had information about the crime. Ian and his uncle decide to kill Terry. In the end, Terry kills Ian accidentally and suicides.

You see the importance of the family and that you have to help your family, but sometimes you have to put your own reasons and forget about the family.
This movie is really interesting and I liked it, but I don't like the end. It's not a shocking end or moving. It's just an ending to a good film.

Cassandra's Dream Review

Ian And Terry are two brothers who, despite their bad economical situation, acquire a sailing ship named "Cassandra's Dream", hoping to be able tu sail with it on weekends. Unfortunately for them, and  as a result of Terry's gambling addiction, their economical situation get worse. However, before all is over for them, their rich uncle Howard comes to celebrate his birthday with them and their parents,  so they ask him if he could them lend some money, and he accepts, but only under one condition: They have to commit crime and kill a man who could send him to jail.

[SPOILERS START HERE]
I liked the film, to be honest, at least until its ending. The end of the film I would say that it is one of the worst ending I have ever seen. I don't like the way Ian dies, it just doesn't seem like a real death to me. But, apart from this part, the rest it's really good, Woody Allen shows us that he's still a good director.
The parts I like the most are:

  • When Ian looses his temper in the boat, starting to fight with terry and asking him angrily why he is just unable to let them go. I like this part because it shows Ian's real thoughts about his brother, and also because if I were him, I would loose my temper even in a worse manner, because I couldn't be able to kill my brother, I'll just get angry with him and try to convince him of forget about it.
  • When they decide to kill the man. I my uncle told me to kill a guy, I wouldn't know what to do if someone ask me to kill anyone for money, I think that I would have to be too desperate to accept, just like Ian and Terry.
To finish this review, I'd like to say that I kind of identify myself with Terry. If i had to do what they did, I think I would be like him: not able to sleep, be very stressed, having drugs all day... I just couldn't take it, kill a person it's something that goes further than I do.
[SPOILERS END HERE]

Cassandra's Dream

The movie, Cassandra's Dream is about morals. Like humanes, we tend to face our selfish desires instead of looking outside our little bubble and wonder wether what  we do is right or wrong. The two brothers of the story haev to  face a strong decition in their lifes. They need to kill because of his uncle. Family, represented in the film as the union between a group of people who don't really have anything in common but blood, need to do something they don't want to do in purpose to obtain the money they need for different reasons. One of them spends his money and time gambling and the other one is too ambitious. He wants to be rich and famous, and most of all, succesful in life- instead of being stuck in a restauran like his father-.

Money rules the world. It's unthinkable to be happy without money. It's said that money doesn't give happiness, but it certainly helps-  . The question is... what would you do for it? You need to have limits. Your freedom mustn't harm other person's freedom.  And here is where morals have tpo be important. They limit your actions. Killing someone for money is destroying what you are and  what you think.

Where do we stand in a society where we need money to life? Isn't love important? Isn't friendship important? We lose what we are. Humans are humans because we think before we act. We are humans. We feel, we think and we are empathic.  We have the ability to put into someone else's shoes.

What's the point of having money when you lack of people around you? Loneliness is as bad as poverty.  I believe  it's better to be poor and be with people than being rich and lonely.

Besides, regret is acid, and corroes your soul slowly. Before you notice, you are numb, empty inside. Nothing matters because a part of you, a very important part of you, has died in the moment you take away a life. You sort of pass away, and you don't notice it until it's too late.

Nevertheless, your morals are questioned once family comes across. Family is our everything, or so we have been told. When there's nothing left to hold on, family is there to support us and gives us strenght. But should we do anything for our family? In my opinion, you have to trust in your family as long as it benefits you. Family should want the best of you, and everything for anything, not just for favours. You give and receive, but when you give you don't expect anything back, and I think that's the pillar of the family concept.

Love, clearly all over Woody Allen's film, plays a funny and tricky role. I think love rules the world, but this is just my point of view.  The two brothers have their girlfriends and they used them as a excusde to get the money. It's a preassure on them that  makes them decide on killing that man.

But the epic thrilling, yet necessary ending is the aswer to all the questions that the film may raise.  The death of the two brothers, in threir boat, their dream, is just flawless. It's like a waking up call after the film. It's the penalty after living without caring about someone else's life.

Cassandra's Dream

Written by: Woody Allen
Filmed in: the UK
Released in:-2007-Europe
                   -2008-US
THE PLOT
Cassandra's Dream is a film that tells the story of Ian and Terry. They hadn't got much money but they could get a boat called Cassandra's Dream. After that, Ian met a beautiful actress called Angela, and he started being interested about her.
His brother had game problems. That's why they became ruined. The arrival of his uncle Tom served as a great aid, but every side has its cross. Tom made him kill a man who was trying to make Tom go to prison because of corruption. Finally, Ian decided to kill the man, but Terry didnt want to. They definitely did. As Ian wasnt feeling safe because he could go to prison, he planned the murder of his brother but in the end Terry killed Ian accidentally.

MY OPINION

I really like actions movies, and I liked it too. I liked it because it is not predictable, i would never think that at the end it was Ian who was killed by his brother. On the one hand I I believe it is a little bit sad, but on the other hand, it doesnt look like it happened in the film, it doesnt look real.
To sum up, i would say that this film is very dramatic. I recommend it to everyone who likes moving films.

Cassandra's dream

During the last few lessons, we watched Cassandra's dream, a film by Woody Allen. The plot of the film is about two brothers. One of them is succesful and down on earth, he's concerned he must work to have a good life, while his brother has a gambling adiction and gets drunk often. On the one hand Ian, the eldest brother, falls in love with an actress and tries to please her in everything, for example pretending he owns expensive cars, when actually his brother Terry, who works as a mechanic, lends him those cars. On the other hand, Terry has a grilfriend and they decide to move on together, but they don't have much money and he can't stop from gambling. One day Terry receives a threat from the people he has borrowed the money, whereas Ian can't stand his girlfriend's expensive lifestyle, besides, he wants to move to LA to invest in hotels while his grilfriend becomes a famous actress in Hollywood. So they both decide to ask their rich uncle for money. Their uncle Howard accepts to give them the money, nut they'll have to kill a man who's trying to put his uncle in prison for corruption. At first, they didn't even think about it, but in the end, the accept the deal. Then they start planning the murder. Terry is confused and thinks it's a bad idea, but they do it anyway. Ian is happy and forgets about it, but Terry can't. He starts dreaming about the murder, he has nightmares and speaks while he's asleep. His girlfriend is very worried and doesn't believe he's killed someone, she just thiks there's something wrong with him, so she asks Ian for help. When he feels his freedom is in danger, he decides to kill his brother. So they both go sailing in their boat. Ian is decided to poison his brother, but suddenly they start a fight and Terry kills Ian accidentally. Then he drowns himself.
It is definitely a very moving movie. I really liked it though it’s a bit difficult to believe. I guess some people may come to this point it they find themselves in a hard situation. But killing your brother? That’s going too far. It’s also very interesting the different the two brothers are; one always calm and with his foot on earth, and the other one a real dreamer. But in the end, it is the “dreamer” one who thinks killing someone is not right.
It’s a film that makes you think about how much you could do to get what you want.

Cassandra´s Dream

Cassandra´s Dream, film by Woody Allen, tells the story of two brothers. Ian and Terry, who live in a medium social standard, but have high expectations to fulfill. In Ian´s case, his dream is running a hotels company in California. Terry wants to open a sports shop. But their echonomical situation is not good for their ambitions, and Terry´s addiction to gumble just gets make things worse. They buy a second hand boat, Cassandra´s Dream, which seemed to make their lifes a bit happier.
Unexpected happens, and their uncle Howard cames up  offering his help, but not for free. He asks his nephews to help him with a little "problem". He wants them to help him to get rid of his associate, Mr. Burns, who could put uncle Howard in prison.
This favour will put Ian and Terry´s moral and mental strongness to the limit, and make them think about the price of fulfilling their dreams.
I must say that I have not seen much Woody Allen´s filmography, but I would say that this is not one of his bests productions. But still I enjoyed the film. It made me think about what I would do to reach my goals and ambitions, but the thing that really stayed in my mind for some days was the remorse feeling after killing someone. I wondered about how intense the mental fight to not think about it should have been, and the nightmares are the worst part. I don´t think I´d be able to stand it, it´s a great weight on your back. At least, Ian also did it because he loved his girlfriend and wanted the best for her, but still it isn´t a excuse.

Cassandra's Dream- Woody Allen

Cassandra's Dream is a film directed by Woody Allen, an american director which is one of my favourite. It was released on 2007.
The film is about two brothers, whose names were Ian and Terry. In spite of having a lot of economic problems, they bought a second-handed sailboat, which they called Cassandra's Dream.
Ian had big dreams because he wanted to save money to invest in two hotels of California; while the other brother, Terry, was an alcoholic gambler addicted in pills and mechanic. The problems with the economy didn't stop but with the arrival of their uncle Howard, it seemed that the situation would improve a little bit. The two brothers saw the chance to borrow they money they needed to quit the debt and to invest in the hotel. However, the help of Howard wasn't free. The price of a good life for them was to commit a crime with unexpected consequences. Their uncle Howard asked them to get rid of his former associated Martin Burns.
At the end of the film, unfortunately, the two brothers were killed.
In my opinion this film is not the best from Woody Allen's films. I don't really like it because I think that what the two brothers did, was not so good.
On the one hand, one of them was an alcoholic gambler which means that he lost his money because he was addicted to games and I think that if he wouldn't do that, they surely could buy their second-handed sailboat without problems and they probably  wouldn't have debts so the experience that their uncle Howard made them do would not have occurred.
On the other hand, Ian could avoid the situation. He could try to change his brother according to the addiction to the games that he had.
As I see it, the end of the film is very dramatic and tragic because it finish with the death of the two brothers, Ian and Terry, who were the protagonists of the film. Personally, I would change the end of the film because it is very shocked.
However, I also believe that Cassandra's Dream is a original film because there aren't many movies that are about this topic. In my opinion, the actors are very good and they make their script very well.
To conclude, I prefer others Woody Allen's films but I recommend Cassandra's Dreams because I'm sure that many people would like it in spite of my personal opinion.http://pics.filmaffinity.com/El_sueno_de_Casandra-827913778-large.jpg

CASSANDRA'S DREAM

Cassandra's dream is a story about two brothers who are desperate to better their troubled lives. Despite its economic difficulties, both take on a second hand sailboat called "Cassandra's Dream" with the idea of sail at the weekends. Terry is a chronic gambler in debt over his head, and Ian is a young man in love with a beautiful actress he has recently met. Terry's weakness for gambling will cause both to merge into a delicate financial situation. The appearance of their uncle Howard that has a past full of economic success will help the brothers . But everything has a price. Howard will force them to violate the law, testing their moral character, and setting off a chain of events that will lead to unexpected consequences. Between vegetation, protected from the rain, covered by a camera spinning around in a sensational level, Howard propose to his desperate nephews commit a crime that will change their lives forever. This is crossing a line. And when they do, everything will be different.

I don't like this film very much because in my opinion it is so tragic and stress but I know it is a very good film, like other films directed by Woody Allen
